Merseyside
Cross Country Championships - course map
Liverpool Half Marathon Boycott.
The Committee is asking club members to boycott the Liverpool Half Marathon. The event has been scheduled for the same day as our road race and no consultation was undertaken with ourselves or Merseyside County AAA with regards to the date. The decision was based on commercial practice with no consideration given to the development of athletics in the county. The race fee does not differentiate between club and non-club athletes which penalises club athletes. In addition, unlike our own race, there is no guarantee that an accurate unattached levy will be paid to the North of England. We are a democratic organisation and therefore we do not mandate our members, or order them. The choice is yours but running in this event is inimical to the interests of athletics in St Helens and on Merseyside and we trust you will think carefully before entering this or other mass marathons which fail to put anything back into the sport. New Year - More Honours
St Helens-Sutton are providing 17 of
Merseyside's athletes for the North West Regional Final at Wigan on
5 February. That's 42.5% of the entire team. Two years ago five

will act as team manager.

New Year - New Beginning.
Owen Andrew Ben Thomas was born on
Tuesday 18 January, weighing in at 10lbs 14ozs. This makes the
youthful looking Phil Thomas (he wasn't wearing his glasses at the
time!!) a grandfather which he seems quite pleased about.
Isle of Man
Over two dozen athletes have made - or
are making -arrangements to visit the Isle of Man for the first
Northern League match on 1 May. Anyone wishing to fly should book
early to make sure of a seat using the internet site referred to
in correspondence. All bookings through Phil Thomas please.
