December 2003 News

The Holiday Training at the Sports Centre:

The final pre-Christmas training session at the Sports Centre and track will
take place on Thursday 18 December 2003 .  The first training session of the
New Year will take place on Tuesday 6 January 2004

Fixtures taking place while the Sports Centre is closed over the holiday period include :-

Cheshire League Cross Country at Castle Park, Frodsham on Sunday 28 December,
Merseyside Country Championships at Stadt Moers, Huyton on Saturday 3 January 2004, and
Cheshire Country Championships at Knights Grange, Winsford on Saturday 3 January 2004

Make sure you stay in touch with your coach as there will be training sessions during the Christmas break.  A Happy Christmas and New Year to all.

Child Welfare:

At the Committee Meeting on 27 November it was decided to form a specific
Child Welfare sub-committee under the joint chairmanship of our Child
Protection Officers, Sue Lowrie and John Irwin, who have been re-designated
Child Welfare Officers. The invited sub-committee members, all of whom have
attended child protection courses are Joe Ehlen, Roseanne Hutchinson, Frank
Atkinson
, Pauline Picton, Sue Clague, Liz Devine and Paul Davenport. Julia Hayes is an ex-officio member of the committee. The role of the
sub-committee will be to develop child welfare policies for publication throughout the club. The club's overall policy is for all coaches and officials to attend
child protection courses as soon as they become available.

Record Entry For the Northern Championships:

We've done it again. 2001, 8 athletes: no teams: 2002, 26 athletes: three
teams: 2003, 52 athletes : eight teams. It would have been more but John
Irwin
is Clerk of the Course, Julia Hayes is championship secretary, Jodie
Nelson
is in the navy (that'll teach her not to answer back to Ray Vose!!)
and we are providing six course marshals ( Denis Fulton, Nicola Quinn, Anna
Sheffield, Paul Davenport, Steve Eccleston & Dave Morley
).

Joe Ehlen:

Joe Ehlen
was instrumental in the establishment and development of this
site. His role has been vital. However, Joe is multi-talented and in recent
months his commitment to coaching has increased with his work in primary,
Sports Hall and, in the New Year, sprints and jumps. Typically Joe asked if
we could make the days longer so he could fit everything in but, after
consultation, he decided to concentrate on coaching and development. Barry
Graney
, who it is rumoured knows a bit about computers, has volunteered to
develop the technical side of the site and Phil Thomas will continue to
provide the words.

Many thanks to Joe for his role in developing the website and we look forward to seeing the fruits of his labours in coaching over the cross country and track seasons.
