Liverpool Half Marathon
A bunch of five athletes ran in Liverpool on a perfect day for running, if anything it got a little too warm running back toward Liverpool down the prom. Gemma Connolly (1st Senior Female, 1:21:23) managed to win the open race despite being a little disappointed with her time, putting it down to heavy training. Barry Graney (58th V45, 1:36:07) also ran much slower than he would have liked, for exactly the opposite reason. Peter Code (62nd V50, 1:47:55) was next home, followed by Collette Flaherty (77th V40, 1:58:47) finishing well under the two hour mark with Linda White (32nd V50, 2:01:47) completing the turn out.
23rd Stuttgart-Lauf 2016
Our twin town in Germany, the city of Stuttgart, would like to welcome St Helens runners to their 23rd festival of running, incorporating the Stuttgart 7KM and Half Marathon on the weekend 18/19th June.
You would need to find the cost of your flights and some food but the city of Stuttgart will meet accommodation and entry fees for up to 3 runners (see link below). If you are interested in applying for a place, please email GemmaWebster@sthelens.gov.uk by Monday 18th April.
If there are more than 3 applications a draw will take place.
St Helens 10k
Now in it’s sixth year the 10k race that takes runners from Langtree Park to North road and back drew over twenty club runners. A challenging 10k that has the runners effectively climb the North road hill 4 times saw a cold start while the runners prepared, but once underway the day was a good one for running.
Steve Anders (4th, 34:56) was first back for the club in fourth position overall, with John Greenall (33rd, 38:00) and Ian Hayburn (41st, 38:48) following him in. Kevin Cunningham (72nd, 40:39) led Ian White (117th, 42:37) and Christopher Coatsworth (175th, 44:43) home.
Samantha Price (189th, 45:02) was first lady back for the club, with Rachel Beesley (264th, 46:43) and Leon Hill (310th, 47:50) next home. Rachel Wilcock (362nd, 48:53), Julia Shuker (381st, 49:20) and Chris Paton (667th, 54:08) all came home with good times on a hard course. Finishing well inside the hour mark were Karen Harrison (819th, 56:32), Collette Flaherty (919th, 58:05) and Shaun Ashcroft (968th, 58:52).
Jane Ashcroft (1246th, 64:51) lost a few seconds looking around, followed in by Carol Stanley (1506th, 71:49), Jane Makin (1584th, 75:44), Stacey Gardner (1629th, 79:10), Louise Hill (1630th, 79:23) and Lorraine Kelly-Swan (1698th, 95:19).
Anglesey Half Marathon
Ian Pass competed in this undulating and scenic half from the Menai suspension bridge to Beaumaris castle and back. On his return to racing after a couple of years out with injury, Ian was pleased to finish as 15th MV40 in 1:35:52.
Sales Harriers Open Meeting
Daniel Lamb and Darren Scott both competed at the Sale Harriers Open Meeting at Sportscity. Daniel won his 60m heat in 7.36 (PB) and jumped 5.55m in the long jump. Darren won his 60m heat in 7.33 and his 200m heat in 22.98.
Welcome to the updated website!
Yes I know, it’s been a while coming!
After 15 years of running the original club website the effort needed to do so has become more and more time consuming. The old package it was developed in became harder to keep running and website hosts who would host the old style site became increasingly harder to find.
So after a while of trying to develop this while keeping the old site upto date (which wasn’t possible) I decided to concentrate on moving over to the new site (you might have noticed the lack of news on the original site!) I have been keeping this site up to date during the development so there shouldn’t be a gap between new and old and of course all that history is still there on the original site for you to search.
This new platform should be easier for others to share the task of updating stories, records etc… so if you’d like to see something on the site or volunteer to help please get in touch! Please feel free to send in any news items or performances that we’ve missed.
Championships
There’s no excuse for not getting involved – we have arranged not one but two club championships to focus your choice of all the races available out there. The first of these is the St Helens 10k on March 6th – enter now!

Several of the road races are also part of the Merseyside Grand Prix which also start with the above race. As with our championship there’s no additional charge for the series, just enter the race as an individual, list your club name and you’ll be included. Simple.
